We are thrilled to announce that Greyscale has been awarded the Gold in the HONG KONG Design Awards 2024 for our exceptional work on the Hana Sakazuki Teppanyaki Restaurant project. The award, presented by Better Future, recognises our innovative interior design in the Hospitality - Eat & Drink category.
The Hana Sakazuki Teppanyaki Restaurant Project
Our project for Hana Sakazuki, a renowned high-end Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant with an 18-year history, aimed to create an immersive dining experience inspired by the 14th-century Japanese Classical Dance Theatre Noh. The design features a spacious dining area with five separate rooms, each with a Teppanyaki grill facing the guests, allowing for an engaging dining experience that combines culinary excellence with theatrical elements.
The project addressed several pain points in the dining experience, such as the lack of privacy, limited engagement with the chef, and an inconsistent ambiance. Our innovative design tackles these issues by creating separate dining rooms, each with a Teppanyaki grill facing the guests, ensuring a more intimate and interactive experience. The incorporation of traditional Japanese design elements adds depth and authenticity to the experience, transporting guests to another era.
Key Design Features
The Mirror Room (鏡の間) serves as the reception area, featuring striking contrasts between light and dark materials, creating a sense of depth and sophistication. The use of mirrors and strategic lighting creates an illusion of space, setting the tone for the unique dining experience to come.
Guests are then led through The Bridgeway (橋掛) corridor, designed to evoke a sense of anticipation and transition. The elegant design and subtle lighting create a sense of movement, guiding guests towards the main dining area.
The Stage (本舞台) consists of five separate Teppanyaki rooms, each designed to provide an intimate and engaging dining experience. The careful selection of materials and finishes, such as timber and stone, adds warmth and texture to the space, while the thoughtful lighting design highlights the artistry of the chefs and the beauty of the cuisine. The layout ensures that each guest has a clear view of the chef's performance, allowing for a more interactive and immersive experience.
A Culinary Theatre of Japanese Elegance
Hana Sakazuki showcases our exceptional design capabilities in the food and beverage sector. By reimagining the teppanyaki restaurant as a stage for culinary theatre, we've created a unique dining destination that caters to the most discerning clientele in Hong Kong. The project seamlessly blends traditional Japanese elements with modern luxury, resulting in a space that is both innovative and deeply respectful of cultural heritage.
